Ivory Tower Fun!

I love my job. No, really. But there are aspects that set my teeth on edge after a while. The upside? Good cartoon fodder.

E-Publishing Wants Your Soul

With the rise of e-publishing, can e-editors be far behind? They may already be here...

Academic (Retreat) Poetry

How many of us have been subject to the institutional "retreat?" Upon the occasion of our last retreat at UConn I offer you these poetic words:

Bylaws
Bylaws overlap
My brain becomes fuzz
Paying attention?
Not me.

Goals
"Deliverables" and "goals"
Many feign seriousness
Sleep comes
Where is the coffee?

Mission Statement
Mission statement
Everyone adds 2¢
A collective $2.46
Improvement?

Impossibly... More
Overhead projector shines
Certain headache begins
My life passes by
As air conditioners blast

He is the King! So Obviously.

So, I've published this image for a lotta years, but it never gets old.
Happy holiday season, from the King and I.

Make the King a part of  your religious practice today. He can heal you.

Work is Good. Coffee is Better.

And work and coffee together? GREAT! Just a little image drawn, undoubtedly, while I was supposed to be paying attention to something else.

A Picture is Worth 1,000 Inoculations

We will travel with my sister to Ethiopia this spring. This is how the trip looks from here. Plus, I want to live on graph paper. I love it that much.

The F-Train, In Which the "F" Stands For "Fakin' It!"

There are times I don't even want to get off the train because the subject matter is just too available. The last time that happened I fell asleep and ended up at Sheepshead Bay.

Still, it was worth it.

The Early Bird Special

Actual drink created by our motley crew of holiday revelers last summer (the lesbian gang "straight outta (Little) Compton, (RI)," that is). It's actually pretty good and will give you the irresistible urge to wear big ol' plaid boxer shorts.

Academics! Heal Thyselves!

When I'm not busy being an artist or an academic, I dabble in medicine.
Just like any other middle-aged woman.

The Helping Hand

"He's the Most Interesting Man in the World..."

Or so he thinks... the MBTA is a modern stage and we are merely players. Well, some of us are just the audience.

FASCinating. Simply FASCinating.

Break out the Ray-Bans and pass the Icy Hot- we're headin' south in a rag-top boat!

Coffee- It's a Sickness

Let Me Help You...

A game for all ages! All races! All creeds! Put THIS one on your holiday wish list! I'm going to have another shot of scotch.

I think you could really play this. Get some dice, some poker chips,
Parcheesi pieces, and a fistful of valium. You're all set!

Makeup is Not For the Weak

Beauty is pain.

Facial Hair + Food = No

Pizza Farm was an interesting project engaging young designers with a social conscience with the local food community. Check it out here at: ChangeObserver. Less interesting? Some of the cooks...

When in Chicago, Do As the Ethiopians Do

The food!
The bill. As amazing as the food.
I was in Chicago for a conference and Patti, my wife/administrative assistant, found this place for me to scope out. So, she called, said "go there" and I did. A great move! Terrific food and service and just the best Ethiopian ever- even comparing to NYC. So, if you're in Chicago, go here. They WILL blow you away (but not Al Capone style). Just with the food!:

More Air Travel- Still the Greatest Festival of Bacteria Around!

Totally sketchbook. Totally true. Totally worse than Kyle, the flight attendant.

You know it and I know it. There is nothing like the experience of flying the friendly skies. Airlines are the new bus.

Viva, Villa Mexico!

Yes, Villa Mexico is located in Grampy's Gas
Station. Not near. In.
This place bills itself as "an authentic, homemade, Mexican food locale right in the middle of Beacon Hill, in Boston," and it is. You'll think you're in Mexico City... or at least LA. Don't let the establishing shot fool you- it is IN a gas station- just go on trust. Better Mexican fare you won't find in Boston (or much of the northeast), and the customer service is unbeatable, "my friend." Plus, you can fill up, or, as I did, assist a hapless young woman with her choice of motor oil WHILE you eat in front of the power steering fluid display. Go here (and if you don't trust me, read other reviews online):
Villa Mexico

The menu. BTW, the Mole Poblano Burrito is bueno!
Julie King cooks. Or, makes magic, as you'll find out.
Don't leave without some of her homemade salsa.
You've been warned.

Dine in!

House rules. Hygiene is king!

Dinner! And auto maintenance! Perfect together.
And perfectly safe! The marinated chicken burrito
is featured here, along with a great deal on
Power Steering Fluid.
